RealmGuard Playtesting Alpha
A downloadable Realmguard for Windows
I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time solo-developing my take on the perfect Tower Defense game – but I can’t reach that goal without your feedback.
So please feel free to download and test the game!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Tile system, the Cost/Progression idea, or anything else that stood out to you while playing.
If you encounter any bugs (which is very likely at this point), it would be amazing if you could let me know!
Help me develop the dream TD we all deserve!
PS:
To release this Playtest Alpha on time, I kind of had to eyeball the balancing… so it might not even be possible to win.
But if you do, please send me a screenshot of the secret end message! ;)
I also made a small devlog series on YouTube about the process – and you might even get the chance to have your name featured in the game as a weapon! <3

So far the numbers for Ice, Desert, Acid, and Electric do not change. Not sure if it is supposed to raise with tiles I build, or weapons I have on said tiles; but they all stay at zero.

Resetting a level due to mismanaged essence: You need to exit to the menu and then continue to reset the map/realm. It wasn't quite as clear to me right away but breathed a sigh of relief knowing I didn't have to start a new run. Maybe a way to reset the map/realm in the menu while in game?
As for balance, so far I don't think any one is better or worse than another, but I shall try seeing how far I can get using just one weapon type and get back to you on that. So far what has gotten me far is good pathing and weapon placement. Though weapon descriptions will help such as letting players know that enemies will walk right through tiles with spear weapons.
Buddy, not only did you point out some really good issues and a huge bug with the spear, but you also managed to finish Realm 3 with completely unbalanced enemies — that's sick! And as if that wasn’t insane enough, you even donated $12?! literally 12?!?!?!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I’ve got tears in my eyes, man. <3
I did enjoy it and can see some awesome potential with it from your videos. Some other things I found after some more testing: I think bow is probably the best starting weapon over sword or hammer, I can get pretty far with only bow, but still better to use a good mix of weapons. As for beating it, spending some time on the first realm to unlock all weapons in the anvil helped seeing as they carry over each realm allowing for a good axe and spear layout in the later levels. Axe is great for the standard guys; low HP and grouped up. Spears placed correctly can help take out the larger guys. Some bows to help pick off any that get through the kill box. (I play a lot of TD games, love them.) It's just figuring out what works best together.
